For the human, roy and the goofy woman scene I took a lot of inspiration from cyberpunk noir and the idea of a moody postcity environment. I wanted to create a sense of unease and tension, so I used a lot of dark colors and shadows in the design (though a lot less than in my prototypes). As for the ethereal scene I took inspiration from mars, the red glow of heat haze, and other astral kinds of things to make it look like an abhuman location.

I ended up stretching the base image a lot to hide the ugly parts of the first floor and lighting i could not fix or i did not care about. I painstakingly clipped the background/window and redid the lighting using krita’s generative lighting tool (though you can still see a lot of aliasing), added some ceiling lights with circles and gaussian blur, did more clipping and scaling to fit the people I wanted in, and clipped more and more to get people to sit behind the fuck ass railing.
